Obituary | Rick L. Hejny of Ennis, Texas | J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. (2024)

Rick L. Hejny, 66, of Ennis, TX went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 9, 2021. He was born at St. Paul's hospital in Dallas on July 6, 1955 to Jerry L. and Georgia Hejny.

He grew up in a Czech family, and helped out from an early age on the farm where he raised chickens and pigs. When he was a teenager, he found his passion for music and the guitar, which he taught himself to play. He graduated with honors from Ennis High School in 1973. During this time, he and his close friends Larry Prda, and Nick and Andy Mikula formed the Studebakers rock and roll band, which is still together. In July 1975, he married Sherry Lynn McKee, of Dallas, and started their life in Ennis, TX. In June 1981, they welcomed their first daughter, Kristen Richelle, and in July 1984, Kari Lynn completed the family when she was born.

Rick loved vintage cars and cooking delicious food, especially his famous pecan pie for every family event. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and riding his motorcycle. Another favorite passion of his was spending time with hisdad, Jerry Hejny working on cars in theshop on the farm. He was a patriot, loved the United States, freedom, and the right to bear arms. He was a card carrying member of the National Rifle Association. His daughters meant the world to him and he never failed to show it. He loved being a Papaw to his 3 grandchildren, and took so much joy from spending time with them. He was the person you could call in any situation, whether it was how to fix something, advice, or an ear to listen and understand after a long day. There's nothing he couldn't fix or any problem he couldn't solve. You knew if he took it on, it would be done right. He was a master craftsman who was very detail oriented and took pride in his work, but at the same time remained humble and compassionate.

Rick worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 14 years before he andSherry opened their own business, Hejny Autoglass and Vinyl Tops in Ennis. Following that, he had many years of carpentry work and most recently he was finishing out the last of his 20 year career remodeling homes for a non profit organization, the Home Access Fund (Founded by Dale Clark) where he helped hundreds of families with disabilities improve the accessibility of their homes; thereby impacting their quality of life.

He spent the last 10 years of his life with his fiancé Lisa Tittle. They spent their time laughing, dancing, watching movies, and making special memories with family. They had planned to start their life together this year .

Anyone who knew him knew he was on fire for Jesus and was an incredible example of what a walk with Christ looked like. From his servant's heart to the light he brought to everyone he encountered, he glorified his Lord and Savior.

He is preceeded in death by his parents Jerry and Georgia Hejny, his grandparents on both the Hejny and Marusak side and his nephew, Dusty Hejny.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kristen Beckham and Kari Cummings and two son-in-laws, Brian Beckham and Peter Cummings.

His 4 brothers, Steve Hejny of Texoma and wife, Katie. James Hejny of Ennis and wife, Judi. John Hejny of Garland and wife, Teresa. Glenn Hejny of Ennis and wife, Stacy and his 5 nieces and nephews.

He also has 3 grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Luke, age 8, Graham age, 4 and Gracie age 2

and his Fiance, Lisa Tittle of Waxahachie, TX who he made many fun memories with over the last 10 years.

He will be greatly missed, but we know he has inherited the kingdom of Heaven and we look forward to the day we are reunited together.
